Here’s yet another professionally recorded festival performance from Kathleen Edwards and company!

Originally captured last summer at Xponential Festival in Philadelphia, and as such, has a handful of songs not performed during the 2012 festival circuit as posted in the Bonaroo a few days ago.

Chief among them are the two new songs, then-previews from her now-freshly released album Total Freedom, which only recently has come to see the light of day.

Her excellent cover of Supertramp‘s The Logical Song is also a tremendous set highlight.

The set’s video was streamed on XPNfest.org, where I was able to capture the audio straight from my audio card (no, I was unable to capture the video!). Unfortunately, that makes this a transcode, which is verboten in online trading circles.

Luckily, running this blog independently, I can still cater to casual fans who don’t care about live taping ethics and polices, and can provide this tape to you as long as you solemnly  capital-P Promise to listen to it, enjoy it, but do not share it — ESPECIALLY without the included text file noting its questionable origins.

As it was originally sourced from professional video, the sound quality is generally great throughout, but there are some small note-worthy disclaimers.

It was a hella-windy day, and Kathleen banters about it throughout the set — often even mid-song! The wind is picked up by the mics, and so you’ll hear it from time to time.

The vocal mix is sometimes a bit curious, too, with Jim Bryson‘s backing vocals sometimes coming across too loudly, and threatening to overpower Kathleen’s voice at points. Would be a bigger problem if Jim wasn’t a fantastic singer in his own right.

The audience mix is sometimes a bit peculiar, too. It’s clear they concert-goers were mic’ed separately, and sometimes the fader is notched up a bit too quickly/aggressively, making the cheering sound unnatural.

But, these are nitpicks! This is a fantastic tape that Kathleen Edwards fans will be sure to love, enjoy, and listen to repeatedly. Go ahead and give it a download and see for yourself.
