Kathleen Edwards @ CBC Studio 11

It isn’t frequent that Kathleen Edwards plays a show in Toronto that I don’t somehow find a way to get to. In fact, since the release of Asking For Flowers (and perhaps a bit before it), I managed to see all but one Kathleen Edwards show in Toronto — a show at the Trinity Church surprised me by selling out before I could snag a ticket.

When I booked two weeks off of work to travel for a destination wedding that would take me to the southern US and Bahamas, I just KNEW that I was going to miss a concert I really, really didn’t want to. Up until the days leading up to the trip, it looked like I just might be able to escape that curse.

That is, until CBC announced they would be doing a special invite-only Kathleen Edwards show in their studio.

Of course. On a cruise ship in the middle of the Atlantic, there would be no way I’d catch this one. So miss it, I did.

Luckily, CBC broadcast almost the whole thing (false starts, banter, and one live song was edited out) less than a week later on CBC Canada Live, and I was able to capture it for our shared enjoyment.

Her current live band features the excellent Hannah Georgas on back-up vocals, who will also be opening the Voyageur tour over the next couple of months, including local stops in Montreal, Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto. On this special, Kathleen also shares the stage with local Canadian talent Bahamas and Sarah Harmer.

Huge thanks to the CBC and host Andrew Craig, Kathleen Edwards, Hannah Georgas, Daniel Ledwell, Lyle Molzan, John Dinsmore, Gord Tough, Bahamas, and Sarah Harmer for bringing the concert to me when I couldn’t be there myself.
